2018-19 GRAND MASTER

OF GLOC Jackson Cheng

Brethren :
The Grand Eastern seat was given to me out of surprise and thus, I did not prepare an inaugural speech.

Nevertheless, I still like to thank those who had chosen me as their Grand Master.
Taking this opportunity, I’d like to share with all our brethren my humble prospective on Masonry that we may, in the year(s) to come, elevate ourselves even further.

In MWB Philip Liang’s speech during his Grand Visitation, he focused on what he termed as “a foundation with 3 interlocking, interdependent pillars, supporting one another,
namely

1) expanding membership/receiving new members,

2) peace, harmony, fellowship & brotherly love,

3) ritual work, Masonic education & research.”

PGM Philip’s three pillars are very valid and should continue to remain as a part of our core values. With that in mind, I believe we may better execute these core values through improving some of our practices.
1. Reach out to our brethren who have faded along their Masonic path. We should extend our fraternal love and relief to faded brothers and gently remind them that we have not forgotten our brothers and that they are part of our Masonic family.
2. As each generation passes, a new generation takes the helm. We are not immune to time. It is vital that we receive those who have discovered and followed the path of Masonry. Yet, we must not compromise our standards and diminishing ourselves.
Masonry is a progressive science that is learned through genuine dedication. To facilitate our education, I wish to emphasize the importance of “coaching” to our new passed brethren.
It is paramount that elder brothers rally our new passed brethren to review and refresh the basic & essential tenets of all three degrees.
3. Masonry is the way of our life – It is our prestige that we Freemasons, through living and abiding by our essential tenets, that we are elevated from the profane world.
4. There is a saying in Chinese “Life begins at 70”. Thus I’d like to highlight our 70th anniversary with a meaningful celebration to be remembered for years to come. I hope to achieve this with your genuine support.
In closing, I look forward to serving you, my brethren, as you have kindly elected me. I hope that through our joined efforts, we will endeavor to make GLOC shine again.
