Seasonal Gathering (Meeting of Directors and Supervisors)
The United Grand Lodge of England meets four times a year, they only receive guests on June and December meetings. The March and September meetings are for UGLE members only. We have a similar system as UGLE, with four Meetings of Directors and Supervisors and one Annual Communication. Since the Annual Communication has to receive guests, listen to the annual work and financial reports of each committee and Grand Lodge, it leaves us not enough time to discuss business. This makes the Directors and Supervisors Meetings very important for us to commit issues, discuss, and find solutions. Blue Lodges may listen to the Grand Lodge Committees’ brief report of the progress of various tasks. It is also a good chance to negotiate with each other or with the Grand Lodge on various matters in this meeting.
This is the same as the Stated Meeting of the Blue Lodge. It is more a summons than a notice to the three Lesser Lights of each Lodge. There’s no way for Grand Lodge Officers to learn what Blue Lodges’ needs or difficulties they are facing, neither can advice or assistance be provided, if the Three Lesser Lights do not participate in our seasonal meeting.
In the quarterly meetings, you will have the chance to observe which brother can find questions that are truly beneficial to brothers, who can propose real solutions, and who has truly made a contribution to solve these problems. Rather than asking about which candidate of elected Grand Officers may perform better than others before our annual election, or complaining afterwards about the poor performance of the Grand Lodge, it is a better way to actively participate in the Supervisors and Directors Meetings, observe, suggest, and assist Grand Lodge in problem-solving. This is what we should do to return the trust of brothers to elect us to this position.
We are gathering not because the law stipulates that we hold a board of directors and supervisors, but because we hope that the representatives of Blue Lodges may get together to discuss how service can bring more benefits to the brethren. Quote by John Ruskin: “When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for our use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will look upon with praise and thanksgiving in their hearts.” I think this is the goal and what we hope to achieve at every gathering.

季聚會(理監事會) Seasonal Gathering
英國總會每年有四次聚會,3月和9月的會議純為自己會員聚會,只有6月和12月的聚會接待外賓。
中國美生總會的制度與英國相似,我們有四次理監事會,一次為年度大會。年度大會因為要接待外賓,要聽取各委員會和總會的年度工作報告和財務報告,並沒有時間討論事務。
所以理監事會就變得非常重要,我們可以在此時提出議案,討論和找出解決方案。分會應該在這個時候聽取總會簡要說明各項工作的進度,也應該藉這裡彼此協商或與總會協商雙方相關的事務,就各種問題提出討論。
這跟分會每個月的例會一樣,是對各分會三小明光的召集令,不是一個個人愛來不來的會議。三小明光不參與會議,總會職員將無從了解分會的需求或困難,從而也無法提供建議或協助。
在季會議中大家也可以觀察到那一位兄弟能提出真正有益於兄弟的問題,誰能提出解決的方案,又是誰真正的位美生做出了貢獻解決問題。
與其在選舉前打聽那位候選人可能表現較佳,或事後抱怨所選非人或總會表現不佳,不如積極參與理監事會,觀察建議與協助總會解決問題,才是真正不辜負分會兄弟的付託被選任為分會職員。
我們聚會不是為了國家法令規定我們要召開理監事會,而是希望各廬三小明光和前會長代表能聚在一起討論怎樣服務能為兄弟們帶來更多福祉。
約翰·羅斯金說:「當我們建造時,讓我們認為我們會永遠建造。讓它不只是為了眼前的快樂,也不是為了我們自己的使用。願我們的子孫後代都能在心中充滿讚美和感恩地看待這項工作。」我想這才是我們每次聚會的目標和所希冀達到的目的。
