Grand Representative & Representative of the Grand Master
I. How the Grand Representative is Appointed

Grand Representatives are appointed by Grand Lodges who are in amity with the Grand Lodge of China.

Grand Representatives are not appointed solely by the Grand Lodge of China.s:
(1) We submit our recommended candidates with names, titles, and background.
(2) The amity Grand Lodge may accept (e.g., on Dec. 1 we replied to the Grand Lodge of Illinois expressing our pleasure in accepting Brother [Name] as their Representative).
(3) The other Grand Lodge sends an official appointment letter.
(4) Their Grand Master may change their Representative at any time.

A Grand Representative is a working title—not honorary, not lifelong.

No brother shall claim to be a Grand Representative until the official letter is received.

A Grand Representative must contact the Grand Lodge he represents through our Grand Secretary before visiting.

II. Representative of the Grand Master

The Grand Master may assign a brother to attend events or communications abroad as his representative.

A brother traveling for business or personal reasons may request the Grand Master’s permission to represent him with a letter or gift.

The role is temporary and ends with completion of the task.

No one shall claim to be the Grand Master’s Representative without an official assignment and letter.

Even if both sides have Grand Representatives, the Grand Master may appoint a separate representative.

A report should be submitted to the Grand Master after the visit.

III. Visiting Foreign Grand Lodges on Behalf of the Grand Lodge of China (or Grand Master)

A Grand Lodge is not a tourist destination—visits should be arranged in advance to allow proper reception and responses. European Grand Lodges in particular value proper rank and protocol.

The visiting brother must report to the Grand Master and acquire an official letter from the Grand Secretary stating his identity and mission.

When meeting Grand Lodge officers, especially the Grand Master, be respectful and modest. A suit is appropriate unless in an informal setting with prior arrangements.

Representing the Grand Lodge is an honor and responsibility. Be punctual, follow the host’s arrangements, and avoid excessive drinking to prevent embarrassment or disruption.

Always wear an Apron and Jewel that corresponds to your actual Masonic rank. Do not wear regalia above your office or claim a higher title.

For those leading a team delegation:
(1) Prepare a brief speech—you may be invited to speak unexpectedly. A short greeting on behalf of the Grand Lodge is essential.
(2) Bring small gifts or local specialties for potential exchanges.
