Most Worshipful Brother Herd was elected Master of Amity Lodge in June 1964, and since then held a series of appointive offices in the Grand Lodge of China as well as Chairman of a significantly important Grand Lodge Committee that promoted new dimensions for the Grand Lodge of China, namely the Foreign Relations Committee. As he is an authority on auditing and accounting he used his expertise to restructure overall fiscal matters. In 1970 he was elected Junior Grand Warden to move progressively upward in the Stations to his election to. That of the Grand East in October 1973.

Most Worshipful Brother Herd has done much in bringing Freemasonry in China to the peak of eminence it now holds through his efforts in the development, improvement and administrative activities of Freemasonry in China as well as through his many contacts with the Grand Lodge of China’s foreign fraternity hood.

In addition to his Blue Lodge work, Most Worshipful Brother Herd was admitted into the Scottish Rite Bodies (Taipei Bodies Southern Jurisdiction) in March 1956. He served as Treasurer and progressed through the various chairs and was elected Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection. Valley of Taipei, in 1963.In view of his continued efforts in Scottish Rite activities, he was knighted a Knight, Commander Court of Honor, (32° KCCH) of the Southern Jurisdiction Scottish Rite, in October 1973.Affiliating with Amity Lodge Number One, and joining the Scottish Rite Bodies to help in the development of the Shrine Club in Taipei, Most Worshipful Brother Herd also joined the Nil Temple Caravan over the “Hot Sands” of Taipei in October: 1956 to become one of its early members, continuous membership in the Ali Shan Oasis Shrine Club of Taipei. Most Worshipful Brother Herd joined the Yang Ming Shan Chapter #5 Order of Eastern Star (of Taipei) in 1963, and was elected Worthy Patron in 1968, and has been Treasurer since 1970.

Most Worshipful Brother Herd was instrumental in the growth of the Taipei International Church, the successor to the Taipei International Methodist Church. He has been a Sunday School teacher for years and still obliges when required. Most Worshipful Brother Herd has been a senior member of the Board with administrative responsibilities, since 1960, and was Chairman of the Board for five years, currently he is a Trustee of the Church, and Chairman of the Finance Committee. In view of Most Worshipful Brother Herd’s Christian upbringing, and his Masonic exposure, and the responsible positions he had held in all organizations he may well have had some influence in the church of his choice being somewhat ecumenical in character.

Most Worshipful Brother Herd has also served on the governing Boards of the Taipei International YMCA for six years, the Tamsui Golf and Country Club for four years, and the Friends of Soochow University Advisory Board seven years.

Most Worshipful Brother Herd graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland (located just north of Washington, D. C.), in June 1950, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He has since attended many management and executive seminars conducted at Harvard and other universities. He has also attended and given courses in auditing and accounting relative to his professional association with airline operations.

In September 1960, a few years after he had arrived in Taipei, Most Worshipful Brother Herd married Miss Ruth Winifred White in a memorable ceremony in the City of Taipei. They have two children both born in Taipei, a girl, Karil Ann, born in 1962, and Lindsey Bruce, III, born in 1968.

Mrs. Lindsey B. Herd, known to all of us as Ruth is a member of the Yang Ming Shan Chapter #5 Order of the Eastern Star, and with her husband attends many professional, community, church and Masonic activities. Mrs. Herd enjoys being a member of Ikebana, the Japanese Oriented International National Flower Association, and was its President for 2 years. She is an ardent gardener, a member of the Taipei International Church, Christian Welfare Handicraft Center, and the Taipei International Women’s Club. She is an excellent hostess and outstanding cook; a good wife, a good mother, and a charming lady.

Most Worshipful Brother Lindsey B. Herd, Jr., has been an employee of Civil Air Transport, Air Asia Company Limited, and Air America, Incorporated, since 1952. His professionalism has contributed much to the fiscal affairs of those companies. He is presently and concurrently Treasurer/Controller of all three organizations.
